The founder and chief instructor of Tao of Texas Martial Arts Institute in Austin, Texas, Chapaty is respected as an empowering, positive teacher with a knack for helping students of all ages and abilities learn Taekwondo and self-defense. A 19-year martial arts veteran, Chapaty ran her own studio for five years before moving her character development-focused program to a YMCA on the poorest side of town, where she continues to teach children with ADHD, Asperger’s syndrome, and other challenges.
She is a popular instructor nationwide as well, having been invited twice to teach for National Women’s Martial Arts Federation (NWMAF) camps. Among other honors, Chapaty was recently named 2011 NWMAF Member of the Year.
A published author, Chapaty has written dozens of essays for a variety of media on topics as integrity in sports, anger management, and mentorship through martial arts. She was most recently honored by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea for her work.
She lives in Austin with her partner of 13 years, three dogs—two with three legs—and a hopelessly predatory cat. [Available as guest instructor for seminars/workshops/speaking engagements. Query TaoTexas@gmail.com.]
